Atlanta Dramatists presents Two Workshops by Jessica Bennett:
DEMYSTIFYING STAGE INTIMACY
September 7 from 11am – 1pm
and
DEMYSTIFYING STAGE COMBAT
September 7 from 2pm – 4pm
Description: Does the thought of being intimate on stage cause you panic? What about the thought of fighting in front of an audience? Are you a writer who struggles to write such scenes because you worry about either the actors’ safety, or that it just won’t look right on the stage? Are you a director who can create amazing stage pictures, but worries about making actors uncomfortable in the more sensitive moments? Many artists feel awkward or uncomfortable in these scenes but are sometimes too afraid to speak up about their discomfort, which is where these workshops come into play. Both are specifically tailored for playwrights, directors, actors, and anyone else with a love of theatre! I am here to answer your questions and help give you confidence during scenes of intimacy and/or violence on the stage and screen. The goal of these workshops is to give you some basic tools and advocacy to move forward with more confidence. Let’s unpack this discomfort and ask ourselves what it is we need in order to move forward more dynamically and confidently in our roles.
Note: There will be some movement and interaction during these workshops, but it will also involve a lot of talking. Shy people are welcome!
When: Saturday, Sept 7 from 11am-1pm (Stage Intimacy) and from 2pm-4pm (Stage Combat).
